GENERAL SURGERY OVERVIEW

  • Hernia Repair

There are two primary methods used to repair a hernia: open surgery and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery. Your surgeon will recommend the best approach based on the type, size, and location of your hernia, as well as your overall health.

  • Gallbladder Surgery

The most common treatment for symptomatic gallstones is the removal of the gallbladder, a procedure called a Cholecystectomy. This surgery is usually done laparoscopically (through small incisions, using small instruments and a camera).

  • Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy is a procedure done using an endoscope, which is a long, thin, flexible tube with a ‘video camera’ at the tip. This tube is passed through the mouth into the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach and first part of the small intestine.

  • Emergency Surgery

Emergency general surgery encompasses a wide variety of conditions, in which patients develop surgical conditions that necessitate an unplanned, emergency admission to hospital and often, an operation.
