South East Upper GI Surgical Group is the practice of two experienced Upper GI, Bariatric & General Surgeons, Dr. Matthew Stokes & Dr. Joshua Hammerschlag.
Dr. Matthew Stokes & Dr. Joshua Hammerschlag are both young, dynamic and innovative surgeons who have worked collaboratively together since 2020, offering the highest standard of surgical care to their patients.
They have both undergone extensive training in Upper GI Surgery both within Australia and internationally, through the highly competitive Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric & Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA) post-fellowship training program.
They specialise in the minimally invasive surgical management of diseases of the oesophagus and stomach, including cancer, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease & hiatal hernias, achalasia, bariatric (weight loss) surgery (both primary & revisional), as well as general surgical conditions, including gallstone disease, hernias and emergency general surgery.
Both Dr. Stokes & Dr. Hammerschlag are strategically employed in both public and private hospitals across South East Victoria. They warmly welcome referrals for both private and public patients for new consultations and are available for urgent referrals, including new cancer diagnoses.
